Computational techniques for expressive musical accompaniment synthesis
Presenter: Roberto Piassi Passos Bodo
In this seminar the speaker will present his master's project that addresses the problem of automated musical accompaniment. In such problem the computer compares the events of a live performance with a score and, inferring the tempo of the musician, generates the appropriate accompaniment in real-time. A musical accompaniment system can be implemented with four separate modules: the input preprocessor, the matcher, the accompanist and the synthesizer.
The tasks related to the first and last modules are considered peripheral to the scope of the project and therefore will only be exposed techniques related to the two center modules with a greater focus on the accompanist. Furthermore, it will be presented the problem of expressive synthesis that has a high connection with the accompaniment generation problem.
