Panel 1

Free improvisation and new digital processing electronic resources: the performers' point-of-view

Participants: Prof. Dr. Rogério Costa (USP), Prof. Dr. Fernando Iazzetta (USP), Dr. Cesar Villavicencio (USP), Prof. Dr. Michele Agnes (FASM).

In this panel the following issues related to the main theme will be discussed:

  1. The instrument and the corporeal issue: ludic pleasure, physicality and the issue of interfaces.
  2. The pre-requisites for collective performances to "work" (reduced hearing, ethics of interactions etc.).
  3. How far do performers control (or are controlled by) equipaments (electronic and/or acoustic)? How to deal with error and chance in performance?
  4. How do techniques evolve in the case of new instruments (invented or expanded through electronic processing)?
  5. How do acoustic and electronic sounds relate during performance?
  6. How does this kind of musical practice acquire (or doesn't acquire) consistency: what does a successful performance mean?
  7. Improvisors' acting and ways of musical thinking: gesture, figure and texture.
