Abstract:

In this paper we present a model for granular synthesis in which the internal content (spectrum) of grains are defined as Fuzzy Sets. Markov Chains modulated by Membership Matrices related to the internal structure of the sound grains are used to control the evolution of the sound in time. The final sequencing of grains (sound stream) is controlled by the so called Walsh Functions. Using a number of channels the outputs may have complex polyphonic sound structures. We also provide the mathematical foundations of the model.
