Abstract:

In this paper we develop signal-processing techniques for Timbre Morphing consisting of linear interpolation and non-linear warping. We use the Wigner Time-Frequency Distribution as our representation of timbre. We use a simple mathematical formula for extrema to identify features in each Wigner Distrubution sufrace. Subgraph isomorphism is proposed as a method of identifying corresponding features in each sound. Signals are synthesised from Wigner Distributions using additive synthesis. We apply timbre morphing to short duration synthesised transients of equal pitch.
